Last week was pretty challenging, I was juggling a small first birthday celebration, guests and then the day after the celebration my son got a fever. I was so worried. It was the first time he had ever been ill. So last week I learned the importance of effectively navigating through the bumps and bruises of the motherhood journey. I certainly didn’t feel like I was buying time! Rather, it was more like I was in a trial by fire mode! But challenging days (and weeks) can come with the mama job description.
So, what have I learned from last week? Here are three things:
1) Plan the week in advance. Not everything can be planned (obviously!) but I can pick two to three things that must get done. By accomplishing these tasks, I won’t feel like the entire week is gone.
2) If I can’t have a full blown quiet time, ten to fifteen minutes will do. I had to resort to shorter quiet times this week. In that short time, I just focused on memorizing a scripture verse. And I was pleasantly pleased when I finished my memory work on the first chapter of Colossians last week, despite the emergencies.
3) Keep things in perspective. I tend to be very hard on myself and I think a lot of women feel the same way. But no one said we had to be superwomen! That’s a crazy myth. There’s always another day and there’s always another week to go at it again! “His mercies are new every morning.”
