“I’m not going to die. I’m going home like a shooting star.” –Sojourner Truth
Our bodies are temporal, earthly. But our spirits are eternal, heavenly.
Deep within, we know the ways of heaven. We’re made of star stuff.
“On earth as it is in heaven.”
As above, so below.
We don’t need to reach far to find out who we are.
Our great work in this life is to become living expressions of heaven here on earth, expressing outwardly what’s in us inwardly.
Sojourner knew this truth.
And so do you.

Bookworm Adventures – Books I Read in April
Bookworm Adventures – April was a great reading month for me. It was one of my most productive reading months. I credit that to: 1) reading deadlines for school and 2) limiting how much time I spend on social media.
Here’s what I read in April:
- “A Very Large Expanse of Sea” by Tahereh Mafi (YA romance, own voices)
- “Long Shot” by Kennedy Ryan (contemporary romance, own voices)
- “A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue” by MacKenzie (YA historical)
- “Salvage the Bones” by Jesmyn Ward (adult contemporary, own voices)
- “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas (YA contemporary, own voices. This was a re-read for me.)
What did you read in April?
Gwendolyn Brooks, Quotes by Women
“Truth tellers are not always palatable. There is a preference for candy bars.”
Gwendolyn Brooks, Quotes by Women
Sometimes, I have an internal tug of war with myself. Should I speak the truth and risk ruffling feathers? Or should I stay simply smile and nod instead?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I did the latter, I ended up frustrate and discontent. When I did the former, I was set free.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Freedom came at a cost. I ruffled feathers and upset some. I also became a truer version of myself. I took off the masks and discovered the beauty of authenticity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you choose? Truth telling or candy bars?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
