“Defining myself, as opposed to being defined by others, is one of the most difficult challenges I face.” -Carol Moseley-Braun
Who am I?
I’ve been asking myself this question for a while. The answer arrives in waves, evolutions, and revolutions.
I know I’m not what whiteness and the patriarchy wants me to be. I’m more.
Yet when I become the full measure of myself, people walk away while others gather.
People criticize while others praise.
Neither response matters. The only thing that matters is my self-definition.
Your self-definition matters too. How you define yourself, for yourself, will be the main undertaking of your life.
You won’t arrive at an answer right away. It’ll arrive in waves, evolutions, and revolutions. Be patient with yourself during the process.
Never fear losing or gaining because you’ve become brave enough to be.
