Happy November!
November is Black Catholic History Month. If you follow me on social media, you may have discovered that I am a Catholic revert. A revert is someone who returns to their first religion/spiritual practice. I was raised as a cradle Catholic. Then I was in Protestantism for about 17 years, and I returned to Catholicism after deepening my relationship with the Black Madonna. Perhaps I will write about my reversion story at length one day.
Seeing myself in divinity was a turning point for me. It helped me to see my own value in worth in a world that doesn’t always feel that way towards me.
So this month, I share some Black Catholic History facts on my social media. I hope to put those facts here on my website too.
Here is the first fact:
There are 3 million Black Catholics in the USA & about 798 predominantly Black parishes. There have been 3 African popes in the Catholic Church: Pope Gelasius, Pope Miltiades, and Pope Victor I. These three popes were of Berber descent.
That’s all I have for now. I will post more Black Catholic History facts in future posts.
