“Trust yourself. Think for yourself. Act for yourself. Speak for yourself. Be yourself. Imitation is suicide.” -Marva Collins
Imitation is death. Death to self. Death to your ideas. Death to how you show up in the world.
For me, imitation turned into assimilation. I took on the norms of the majority culture because I thought life would be easier for me. In the end, life was harder.
When I decided to no longer assimilate, I underwent a period of chaos. Those who felt threatened by my God-given uniqueness fell away.
After that initial discomfort, I’ve now arrived at a state of peace. Today, I feel at home in my Brown skin. New people, people who celebrate me, are drawing near too.
So trust yourself. Think for yourself. Be who you are. I want to celebrate the authentic you.
